Highlighting the Asian-American Experience
For Appalachia
Who Are We?
Despite its rich diversity, the full story of Appalachia is often left untold—particularly when it comes to underrepresented communities. At the Appalachian Asian Advocacy Journal (AAAJ), we’re committed to amplifying Asian American voices and experiences across the region. We’re here for those who’ve felt othered. For the student whose lunch sparks judgmental whispers. For the neighbor who rarely sees a familiar face on their daily walk. Our mission is to broaden the narrative of what Appalachia looks like—and who belongs to the mountains. Join us in celebrating the stories that deserve to be seen, heard, and valued in places they've never been told before.

The Journal
Asians Around Appalachia
Asians Around Appalachia (AAA) is a student-led initiative to broaden the scope of Appalachian Asian voices. The mission of the Journal has always been to make the "AppalAsian" experience more accessible, so we want to hear from YOU.
The AAA initiative is your platform to show what it means to be Asian in Appalachia, from every perspective and every voice. The interactive map below is a gateway to the stories buried deep beneath the mountains—a sanctuary for the unheard, unseen, and unrepresented.
